Serenity Salon logoSerenity Salon

A five-star salon with a half-finished website.

Serenity has the best reviews of any salon in the Twin Beaches. The website behind those reviews still carries the builder's sample pages, and more than half of what Google is asked to index is not about the salon at all.

The short version

The reputation is doing all the work. Where Serenity shows up in search, it is because of reviews and location, not because of anything the website says. The fixes below are about making the site match the business.

AReputation5.0 on Google, 98% recommended on Facebook.
BTechnical basicsSecure, redirects correctly, valid sitemap.
DOn-page SEODefault titles, no descriptions, wrong headings.
DContent and site health29 sample pages live, one price list for every service.
CMobile speed7.7 seconds to show the main content on a phone.

What is working

These are real advantages, and a better site should be built around them.

The strongest reviews in town

Serenity has nearly twice the Google reviews of the next salon, with a perfect score. That is the hardest thing in local search to earn, and it is already done.

  • First result in our test search for "hair salon chesapeake beach md."
  • In the map results for "bridal hair and makeup chesapeake beach md."
  • Rod 'N' Reel Resort's website links to the salon.
  • Online booking and gift cards already run through Mangomint.
  • Nine stylist bios that are personal and well written.

Search spot checks were run on 11/04/2026 from a Maryland browser. Results vary by person and location.

What is on the site today

The sitemap, which is the list of pages the site hands to Google, has 55 addresses. Only 26 are real salon pages.

Critical issues

These are visible to customers and to Google right now.

More than half the site is the builder's sample content

When the site was built from a Wix template, the template's demo pages were never removed. They are published, listed in the sitemap, and Google has started indexing them. A search of the site on Google returns a page titled "BRIDAL HAIR" whose description reads "Founder & CEO. Don Francis; Tech Lead. Ashley Jones; Office Manager. Tess Brown."

Live page headed The Wedding Gallary showing stock photos labeled Founder and CEO Don Francis and Tech Lead Ashley Jones
/team-4 is titled "Bridal Hair." It shows nine stock people, the contact details "info@mysite.com" and "123-456-7890," and social icons that link to Wix's own accounts.
Live profile page for Stephanie, Owner and Stylist, showing a stock photo of a man and placeholder text
/team/stephanie is the owner's profile in a second, unfinished team directory. It shows a stock photo and the builder's instructions instead of her bio.
Live services page listing Manicure for 48 dollars and Cosmetic Laser for 20 dollars 50 cents
/services-1 lists sample services at made-up prices: Manicure $48.00, Cosmetic Laser $20.50, Facial $34.90 for two hours. Manicures and laser are not on the salon's real menu, and the real facial is $100.
Live promotions page showing three items titled This is a Title 01, 02 and 03
/items is headed "Promotions" and contains three entries named "This is a Title."

Fix: unpublish all 29 pages and remove them from the sitemap. This can be done on the current site today.

An empty "New Page" sits in the main menu

Under Products, between Amika and Kitsch, the menu on every page includes a link called "New Page." It opens a blank page.

Fix: delete the page and its menu link.

54 of 55 pages have no search description

Only the home page has a description written for search results. For every other page Google has to guess, and it grabs the footer. This is how the stylist page for Shannon appears in a search for the salon's name:

serenitysalonmd.com › copy-of-sara SHANNON BUY ONLINE GIFT CARDS HERE: Serenity Salon Est. 2024 ...

Fix: write a one-to-two sentence description for every real page that names the service and the town.

Page titles are still the builder's defaults

The title is the blue headline in a search result and the single strongest on-page signal. 49 of 55 titles end in "Serenitysalonmd.com" instead of the salon's name, and none of the inner pages mention a service together with a location. The home page title says "Calvert County, MD, USA" but never says Chesapeake Beach.

Web addresses do not match the pages they open

Pages were made by copying other pages, and the addresses kept the old names. Stephanie's page lives at Anne's address and Anne's page lives at Stephanie's. Addresses are a small ranking signal, but they also show up in search results and in every link someone shares.

AddressWhat actually opens
/copy-of-anneStephanie
/copy-of-stephAnne

/copy-of-mary-kTara
/coming-soon-03Cancellation Policy
/about-1Wedding
/about-6Coastal Glow Aesthetics
/blank-6Bridal Packages
/projects-8Newsletter
/copy-of-brazilianMilbon

Fix: give every page a plain address such as /team/stephanie or /weddings, and redirect each old address to its new one so no existing link breaks.

The main heading on every page is the gift card line

Each page should have one main heading that says what the page is about. Here, 50 of 55 pages have two, because the footer line "BUY ONLINE GIFT CARDS HERE:" is marked as a main heading site-wide. On five pages, including Our Team and the Cancellation Policy, it is the only one. The home page's own main heading is the single word "WELCOME."

Fix: one descriptive main heading per page, and demote the footer line to normal text.

High-priority issues

These are the gaps that decide whether the site brings in new clients or only confirms a phone number for existing ones.

Every service shares one price list

Cuts, color, balayage, perms, keratin, facials, waxing, lashes, brows, extensions and permanent jewelry are all on a single page of 284 words, nearly all of them prices. There is nothing describing what a service involves, who it suits or who performs it.

Google ranks pages, not line items. In our test search for "balayage calvert county md," Google listed the home page with the note "Missing: balayage." The salon appeared on reputation alone.

Fix: keep the full menu, and add a focused page for each service group people search for by name.

Serenity Salon home page showing a bay photo with the single heading Welcome
The home page: one line of text over a photo, then the mission statement. No services are named, and the town appears only in the footer.

Weddings are spread across four thin pages

The salon sits inside a wedding venue, which makes bridal work the most valuable search to own. Today that content is split between "Wedding" (88 words), "Bridal Packages" (57 words), a second page also titled "Bridal Packages" (176 words) and the sample "Wedding Gallary" page. On the Wedding page, the photographer's web address appears four times as a section heading.

Fix: one weddings page with the packages, the gallery, photo credits in captions and the inquiry form together.

No hours anywhere on the site

No page lists opening hours. The phone number is plain text rather than a tap-to-call link, and the Contact page has an address but no map. These are the three things a visitor on a phone is most likely looking for.

Fix: hours, tap-to-call and a map in the footer and on the Contact page, kept identical to the Google listing.

149 five-star reviews, and none of them on the website

There is no review, testimonial or star rating on any page. The site's header and footer also have no links to Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, even though the salon has profiles on all three. Those links appear only on individual stylist pages.

Fix: a reviews section on the home, services and wedding pages, and social links in the footer.

62 of 65 photos have no description

Image descriptions tell Google and screen readers what a photo shows. Across the real pages, almost every photo either has none or carries its camera file name, such as "IMG_5381.JPG."

Fix: a short written description on every photo, for example "Balayage by Tara at Serenity Salon, Chesapeake Beach."

Google is given only the bare minimum about the business

Structured data is the behind-the-scenes label that tells Google exactly what a business is. The site has it on the home page only, and it holds just a name, address and phone number. It does not say the business is a hair salon, and it leaves out hours, location coordinates, photos and social profiles.

Fix: complete salon data on every page, plus service and staff details where they apply.

Mobile speed scores 52 out of 100

Google's PageSpeed test on 11/04/2026 measured 7.7 seconds for the main content to appear on a phone. Google's target is under 2.5. The home page loads about 2.9 MB across roughly 230 requests, more than 100 of them script files. The desktop score is 70.

Most of that weight is the Wix platform itself, so it cannot be tuned away on the current site. The same test gives the home page a perfect 100 for SEO, but that check only covers a handful of basics on one page. It cannot see the other 54.

The newsletter is invisible to search

The Newsletter page contains no text at all. Each issue is posted as a set of images, so the specials, news and events inside it cannot be read by Google or by a screen reader, and cannot be searched.

Fix: publish each issue as real text with photos, which also gives the site fresh content every month.

Details and polish

Four versions of the name

"Serenity Hair Salon" on Google and the home title, "Serenity Salon" in the footer and on Facebook, Yelp and Instagram, "Serenity Salon & Boutique" in the page copy, and "Serenitysalonmd.com" on 49 page titles.

Two team lists that disagree

Our Team shows nine people. The hidden directory lists fifteen, including a massage therapist, while the Services page says the salon is hiring one.

Typos in headlines

"The Wedding Gallary," "Serenity Bl ow Dry," and an unfinished sentence on the About page: "A professionally curated team devoted to , who will strive."

An error on every page

A widget snippet was pasted into the site's code file in a way that cannot run. It does nothing except log an error each time a page loads.

A dead booking link in Google

A page from another booking system, EnvisionNow, still shows in search results for the salon. It now leads to a "not found" error.

No share image

None of the 26 real pages sets a preview photo, so links shared by text or on Facebook appear without one.

Domain renewal

The domain is registered through Wix and its current term ends 12/13/2026. It is worth confirming auto-renew is on and the card on file is current.

Accessibility flags

Google's test flags low-contrast text and headings that skip levels. Both are quick to correct.

Search Console login

A verification tag is in place, so someone set it up. Whoever holds that login has the real data on which searches bring visitors.

Recommended plan

Some of this can be fixed on the current site in an afternoon. The rest is structural.

Right away

  • Unpublish the 29 leftover pages
  • Remove "New Page" from the menu
  • Fix the three headline typos
  • Add hours and tap-to-call
  • Confirm the domain renewal

The rebuild

  • A page for each service group
  • One complete weddings page
  • Plain addresses with redirects
  • Titles and descriptions on every page
  • Reviews shown on the site
  • A faster platform

After launch

  • Google Business Profile tune-up
  • One name across every directory
  • Search Console and analytics
  • Monthly newsletter as real pages
  • Review requests after appointments

The reviews are earned. The website should say so.

The proposal lays out the rebuild: what gets built, what is included and what it costs.
